　　——9月2日，89歲的吳冠中將113幅作品捐給新加坡，該消息引起了爭論，對此吳冠中表示“畫家有國界，藝術無國界。”

藝術無國界

日前，新加坡《聯合早報》報道，八十九歲的知名畫家吳冠中決定將自己一百一十三幅畫作無償捐獻給新加坡美術館。這些作品包括六十三幅水墨畫、四十八幅油畫、兩幅書法，創作年份從一九五七年到最近，基本上涵蓋了吳冠中各個創作時期的風格。而按照近期國際拍賣行對吳冠中作品的拍賣價推算，這批畫作市值高達三億元。這一消息很快在內地引起軒然大波，不少網民在論壇發言：「白送給人家，糊塗之至」、「為什麼不把那麼好的作品留在國內，反而捐到國外?」「中國的美術館、博物館的藏品還不豐富，作為中國的藝術家，吳冠中理應將自己的作品捐給國內的博物館、美術館」、「吳冠中此舉說明他不愛國」……對於備受抨擊的捐獻之舉，吳冠中的回答是：「畫家有國界，藝術無國界。」事實上，這次將作品捐給新加坡，是吳冠中自己主動提出的，吳冠中曾經公開表示過自己對新加坡的欣賞與尊敬，尤其是這個國家的道德品質。其實，吳冠中與新加坡的淵源，始於他創作風格在中國國內還未獲認同的年代，當時，新加坡的收藏家給處境困難的吳冠中相當大的支持。所以，這次的捐獻，也是畫家在某種程度上的知恩圖報...

...踏入二十一世紀，港人已進入Soft Depression期（輕輕的憂鬱）。港人曾面對1997年下半年樓市下跌、2000年科網股泡沫爆破，2007年8月至今又一個次按危機，今年起高消費、高槓桿比率時代結束；甚至係西方領導時代結束，東方正在冒起！未來新世界秩序正在形成！加強監管、控制、干預已成為天公地道事，官僚漸漸取代自由市場制度；高官領導下，事情似乎愈搞愈糟。因泡沫由形成到爆破有一定軌可尋，過去高官製造次按泡沫，卻唔容許泡沫爆破後遺症出現，可以咩？我地正面對Centralized Manipulation所產生悲劇後果。

　　T. Boone Pickens1997年6月離開石油事業，開始自己事業生涯，以朋友3700萬美元資金開始創業，到1998年5月已失去2400萬美元，1999年1月只剩番270萬美元；但到2000年卻升值到25200萬美元，其後一帆風順！佢投資天然氣，不但美國電力公司用作發電，亦有巴士公司用作能源。依家佢改為大量投資水項目，估計未來亦可成功。T. Boone Pickens成功之處係當佢已失去投入本金95%時仍肯捱落去！好多時最黑暗時刻就係光明開始，每一個成功者背後都有一萬個失敗者，成功與失敗往往只差一線，就係最困難日子裏你係咪願意繼續捱落去！...

Camping In Studio 2008 (1)

Today I return the HK -> Beijing train ticket. I supposed to leave on 10/OCT, but now I decided to do camping in my Hong Kong studio for a week, no phone, no internet, CAMPING! DO NOT DISTURB.

The above picture (July2004, Padstow, U.K.) is my last camping. Padstow is the west part of U.K. with gorgeous beaches, I walked for few days and did camping illegally (becoz you are not supposed to do camping out of the camp site in England...)... well, there's wonderful sea view, unforgetable starry night, but very freezing...anyway, camping in Fo Tan Studio will be another story....story cont. when I back to internet world. 9/10/2008

年初到柏林的動物園一遊，看見動物及其所身處的環境有種超現實的關係；北極熊在茂密的樹林下玩弄車胎，猴子的背景有高聳的建築與燈光。這令我回想起自己上年創作名為「全球暖化」的作品(現為香港藝術館所藏)，表達在人為的矛盾與和諧之間的生存狀態。我既描述動物，也以此為寓。在是次的新作中，我放棄了慣用的木材，並將以往在木板畫上所建立的技巧運用到畫布上，將主要的色彩都交回顏料之中，回到繪畫的基本語言。我想，山水、人物、花鳥與走獸的傳統題材，正好是對當下的一個恰當比喻，也是一個很豐富的創作養份，這並不與我的身份有關，更多的是來自生活與經歷的體驗。

Early this year during a trip to the Berlin Zoo, I noticed a surreal relationship between the animals and their environment – a polar bear playing with a tire in a dense forest; a monkey with towering buildings and glittering lights behind him. This reminded me of a work I completed last year titled Global Warming (now a part of the collection of the Hong Kong Museum of Art), which reflects both man-made conflicts with the environment as well as efforts to establish harmony with nature. In this work, I not only portray animals, but also use them as symbolic representations. In these paintings, I no longer use wood as a medium as in the past, instead using the painting techniques that I formally applied to wood on canvas, mixing the primary colors together on my palette, and returning to the basic language of painting. I think that traditional themes such as landscapes, portrait, birds and flowers, animals are all good metaphors, and rich inspiration for artistic creation. This has nothing to do with my identity, but has everything to do with my live experiences.

Bobby最近有一個攝影計劃，影人像，由被攝者說出什麼是self portrait，再交到他去演繹。我說我的作品是個人存在的一個延續，到有一天，我消失了，我的作品就定義了我，跟我離開了的世界產生溝通。我特別喜歡第一張，因為在以前的電視或雜誌訪問中，很多時是擺甫士(包括畫畫)，要擺得自然從不是一件易事，(哎呀，那是個專業)。Bobby 這次來到，我跟他寒暄了幾句，就再專心地畫畫，當他透明，於是拍下了這張很自然的照片，我想那是產生自大家的熟稔與信任。也許這是我跟Bobby最好的合照。

The exhibition Inside Looking Out consists of work by seven artists from studio Mr 221 and studio 615 at Fotan. It presents an opportunity to explore whether there is any solid theoretical and methodological basis for an examination of the construct that may come to be called the “Fotan School”. As the art world becomes more and more fragmented, the identification of artists as a member of a particular group or “school” is for many the only way of lending structure to a highly fluid range of contemporary art movements.

記者問，何以這件作品如此傷感。
我首先該感謝藝術中心的慶典內容納這件作品。這是累積了數年來的一些觀察，藝術界的一些現象。藝術家們該極力反撲，但經常顧此失彼，或忍氣吞聲，或好心做壞事，漸漸將我們的藝術及文化流放到一個我們不想看到的現象。三十而立，藝術中心的處境，或是這個展覽的過程與結果，正正說明了藝術資助大時代下的種種實況。又令我想起，「資助」藝術，是基於你對那位/個計劃的信任及認同他的專業，藝術家是靠他的創作及努力去處理文化上的問題，去找尋認同的人，根本不用施捨。

我一直很著重別人對我的看法，也怕得罪人。同樣今年三十而立的我，學會去針對事不針對人，那怕會開罪他人？藝術家如果不能將最真切的感受表達出來，去創作一件首先自己認同的作品，那藝術還有什麼用？當藝術家，還有什麼意思？

Tung Pang香港正處於轉變狀態，是一個重要時刻…個人印象是，中小學教育告訴我們藝術是一種課餘興趣。在英國的時候，我想這是否與殖民地教育有關。藝術是美學的同時，也是對自身文化、身份、國藉的覺察…在英國時，我有這種感覺…我感到藝術不是純粹的興趣，或可做可不做的事情；但在香港，我有這感覺，以致整個社會也是這樣認同藝術，於是大家不認為藝術是一個職業…

在香港，最好的一群前輩藝術家也不能維生，更何況其他？

單是推廣，沒有市場，是不能助藝術家生存的...

這城市認為創作是免費的，讓人感到挫敗

Dear Tung-pang,

I agree that artist fee is one of many returns an artist should get as return for his/her professional work. I said "one of many" because there are also non-financial terms like fame and satisfaction. However, they should not be the excuse for not paying the artists if they could afford, especially when most other people like curators and coordinators have got paid. I participated in many exhibitions where I didn't get artist fee but I still enjoyed the respect and support which is the basic for the professional. We're not kids who are desperate for shows. That's actually the rationale for many organizers who could exploit the passion of the artist: "You want to exhibit, so you can pay it yourself!" After all, you won't ask your doctor: "You love your work, so I can have my consultation free."

When the young Hong Kong artist Lam Tung-pang recently tried to open a
private account at a local bank, he had to face an unexpected obstacle. Asked for
his profession, he specified ‘artist’, but there was no such category and the clerk
registered him under ‘entertainment’, subcategory ‘writer’. “But I never write, I
do paintings”, intervened the artist. “Sorry,” apologized the clerk, “but that is the
only category that comes close to your kind of occupation”.

ArtistsFee ArtistsFree, I think I learn so much through the process of making this piece which I think i didnt reflect it on this works yet. My project aim is to make awareness of the role of artists in the society. Artist's Fee is just a start, there's so many ways that make you feel you are an artist, and its a profession to be respected, but not hobby or a supplyment of any activities.

just sometime you / I / Artist dont wanna to be bother from this issue, therefore I put a sentence in the end of the video (ver 1.1)

明天...

處境 (局部)

這件作品是畫了最長時間的一張，一格格畫，其實又不是畫得很仔細，有點粗筆，也畫禿了好幾支筆。
有點像小學生畫壁畫般，又自不量力學人作sound effect做左個video...這件作品展出的可能性，完全來自於很多人的幫助，不過，其實還有一些相關的事在進行中...

中國舉辦奧運，香港協辦奧運。中國建造鳥巢，香港改造馬場。香港跟隨中國走已十一年了。越走越順，也越走越似。

鳥巢，載著中國人及至所有華人的夢想，養育一群又一群夢想振翅高飛、跨越世界的人民。他們除要面對同一家人、同一族人互相之間的明爭暗鬥，亦要面對外來挑戰。

鳥巢，是有競爭資格的人的戰場，鳥巢之上充滿競爭，鳥巢之下堆積野心。鳥巢下的政治角力，國與國之間的虎視及斜視，民工的苦力，人民的努力及盼望，經濟的付出，文化的融和及適應等等的政治、社會、經濟、文化的運動都微縮在鳥巢這地標下，成為近來世界的新焦點。

「良禽擇木而棲」，鳥巢築於北京帶來甚麼啟示？本地藝術家的巢除了築在香港，還可築在甚麼地方？2008北京奧運年，究竟給世界帶來多少機會？及甚麼程度的影響？「奧運」本身未必會成為當代藝術家的創作題材，但奧運背後、鳥巢底下將有可能引起其窺探的興趣。本展覽邀請七位於北京擴展野心的本地藝術家，展示他們對築巢於北京的動機、感覺、追求、理想、衝擊、協調、生活、藝術等等心理生理及感情的變化與體會。

周俊輝、林東鵬及沈嘉豪於2007年進駐北京，設工作室，繪畫、攝影、交流；郭孟浩(蛙王)及趙顯才同於2007年進駐北京，以其活潑的行為藝術方式，繼續與眾同樂；李鵬及莫偉康於多年前已到北京中央美術學院就學，更早了解內地藝術狀況，強化其藝術事業發展。

展覽於2008年7月27日(星期日)開幕，至9月21日(星期日)，展出作品以繪畫為主，並有攝影、裝置及錄像等不同媒介。另外，C & G藝術單將於同日舉行擴張誌慶，歡迎各界人士參觀，免費入場。
