訃聞

我們懷著悲痛的心情告訴大家，本會會長夏碧泉先生在二零零九年十月十八日中午因病離開了我們。夏會長是香港雕塑學會的創會會長，為籌備成立本會四出奔走，及後他為推動雕塑藝術每事親力親為，勞心勞力，實在是貢獻良多。

夏會長的藝術創作領域涵蓋雕塑、版畫、油畫、水墨畫及攝影，在各方面都有非凡造詣，是香港跨界別創作藝術家的佼佼者，他畢生的創作為香港藝術史寫下了精彩的一頁。他對藝術的追求是永不言止，力求創新。夏會長的雕塑創作別樹一幟，其創作手法新穎而不落俗套，無論任何物料到他手中，經他巧妙的安排，都能化腐朽為神奇，為我們留下許多精彩的作品。

夏會長為人平易近人，雖是老嫗小孩亦絶無架子，每遇藝壇後進，他都會詳述個人創作經歷作為互勉。本會對夏會長逝世感到非常惋惜、難過，本會向夏夫人及家屬致以深切的慰問。

我們將永遠懷念夏會長！

OBITUARY

It is with great sorrow and sadness to announce the passing of the Sculpture Society's President, Mr. Ha Bik Chuen, on 18 October 2009. Mr. Ha was the founding president of the Hong Kong Sculpture Society. He had contributed greatly to the establishment of the Society and the events organized by the Society in the past two and a half years. Mr. Ha had high achievement in all his artistic endeavour, covering sculpture, print-making, western painting, Chinese painting and photography. He had been a standout all-round artist in Hong Kong. His great accomplishment will be a highlight in the art history of Hong Kong. Mr. Ha’s passing is a great loss to the Sculpture Society and the art community of Hong Kong. We express our most sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of Mr. Ha. Mr. Ha, our Founding President, will be in our memory forever!

Sitting on the Western Art History from the Birth of Art to Later Twentieth Art - 2000-2009 by lamtungpang Work created in 2000, when I am the student in Fine Art Department, Chinese University of Hong Kong. It's a western art history book turned stool, which I have been sitting on since it was made.

or if there's no L.V., there's no way to attract audience for contemporary art(also hk art)? It's not the problem of business & Art got married, which for me is same as Academic and Art as a couple, it's only about the way you work and the position you take in this kind of collaboration.What goes wrong properly is Richard Prince's Images covering the Hong Kong Museum of art with repeating the super Big L.V. logo, which seems not necessary.

early this year, I was sucked with moving my studio during Fo Tan Studio Open. I didnt visit friends or studios, but a weird sound/music from a small dark room pull me in, it's complaints choir organized by Pep! In contrast to Cheerup HK, complaints choir collects real complaints (as you can watch from following) from the city, and turn into fun. What a release! I am really pissy off with fake-heart and fake-statement promotional things

FINAL CALL - Applications invited for British East Asian Choreographers Development Scheme
Step Out Arts is inviting proposals from budding British East Asian choreographers to take part in a research and development opportunity which will culminate with two showcases to be held at University of Bedfordshire and Greenwich Dance Agency in September/October 2009. The showcases provide an opportunity for the choreographers to present their work to national promoters. We are looking to select a range of promising choreographers who work in a range of mediums including: contemporary dance, contemporary/ballet, Chinese contemporary, street dance, hip hop dance, multi-media dance projects and video dance. In addition to the showcases, those selected will receive up to £1000 towards the research and development costs of their proposals inclusive and a limited budget will be made available to cover travel costs towards the showcases. Participants will be provided with two weeks of free rehearsal space and will be mentored by a professional choreographer.

British East Asian Choreographers Development Scheme | Step Out Arts
Step Out Arts (SOA) was formed in 1995. It aims to promote Chinese culture and arts at its highest level to a broad audience through productions and educational projects. In 2007/08 SOA was awarded funding from Arts Council England (ACE) for the delivery of it’s annual Jie–Qing festival and in 2009 SOA was awarded funding from ACE to set up a scheme to support and develop the careers of British East Asian choreographers -- a sector which is under-represented throughout the UK.
Step Out Arts and funded by Arts Council England in partnership with Greenwich Dance Agency, University of Bedfordshire and Chinese Arts Centre. The scheme supports Arts Council England's work by taking positive action to address under-representation of Black and Asian artists in accordance with Sections 35 and 37 of the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000.

I always think my works are poison to my country and my city because I live in a country where everythings can be covered by the words "peaceful" "harmony" etc. My works go with many directions and ideas, even different materials, but the ultimate goal for me is always about the peace and harmony, to opposite from my understanding of the war and violence in human's history...When people miss-use the terms like "Harmony", somtimes it's even more violence than starting a war.

512地震 / 512 earthquake and Distance Emotion

Original text in 2008 /

The installation in was going to be a playful juxtaposition of three neon lights reading ‘Made in UK’, ‘Made in China’ and ‘Made in Hong Kong’, their sizes corresponding to the local manufacturing costs in the various locations. However, this play with economic power has shifted its meaning slightly, as the sign reading ‘Made in China’ was broken upon arrival. The unpredictable event cast a light on a fragile and vulnerable side China has to face on its path as emerging super nation. I become aware of this fragility through my experience of natural disasters that struck China this year, resonating strongly with the recent memory of heavy snow early this year and also the devastating earthquakes in Sichuan province.

Dear Member Google has announced an open call for submissions to the Google Photography Prize, a collaboration with the Saatchi Gallery to find talented student photographers and give them unprecedented online and offline exposure. The winning submissions will be available for millions of Google users around the world to display on their personalised iGoogle homepages, and given a special exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery. The overall winner will also receive £5,000 and an invitation to spend a day with renowned photographer Martin Parr. The competition is open to students in institutions of higher education in many countries around the world. Students can enter by submitting a series of five photographs at http://www.google.com/photographyprize by May 31. The thirty-six top entries will be selected for the shortlist and made open to an online public vote on June 11. I met Louis Yu in ADC Award Night and told him I am father-to-be.

"What a big project~!" he said

yes, it's really big, or not yet...many of my friends asking me does it change my perspective, I think so, just I am a person who takes ages to react...maybe that's why I spend most of my time thinking on materials and images but not actually working on the surface of paintings.

I made 2 version on same drawing images, the roll one (Muse Magazine, May issue2009) and the pillow one, actually the pillow one is more meaningful to me as my mum helping me sewing the pillow, I did the drawing transfer. It's included mum and my daugthers mother, I put 2 clips in difference size to enclosed the side.

Thx for invite from Susan Chan (muse magazine), so I can do this little gift for my daugther.

Over 100 artists, designers and celebrities have come together to participate in a charity fund raising event “Bag For Better” dedicated to support the Chi Heng Foundation’s esteemed work on helping the AIDS impacted Orphans and their families in Mainland China.

A plain canvas bag will be given to the participants who will re-create the bag with their own creativity and imagination. The re-created bags will be exhibited at the YY9 gallery and sold under silent auction. The auction bid of each bag starts from HKD1,000. All proceeds will be donated to the Chi Heng Foundation.

This exhibition cum auction has been planned and scheduled in May with the reception to be held on the “World AIDS Orphans Day” on 7th May to add more meaning to this event. We also wish, through this event, to raise more awareness to the adverse situation of the AIDS impacted children in Mainland China and provide people with a channel to express their concerns about our society and help the ones in need.
