In this large-scale, multi-panel painting, pale colours are dispersed across four plywood boards to form a seascape interrupted by mountains and a cluster of tall buildings; figures and trees are dotted across the land, while boats drift across the sea.
Commissioned by the Hong Kong Legislative Council, Centuries of Hong Kong presents Lam’s artistic interpretation of the city’s transformation from a serene fishing village to a cosmopolitan, skyscraper-crowded metropolis over 150 years.
Spanning the 4m x 23m wall of The Park, Lam Tung Pang and COLLECTIVE's Wavy Weaving Wall takes inspiration from Hong Kong’s textile industrial history and the myriad stories of different individuals’ personal memories of a special piece of fabric in their lives. Mimicking fabric movements, the Wavy Weaving Wall welcomes the visitors to listen to these recorded personal stories and be part of the continuous shaping of the artwork through regular interactive hands-on workshops.
“History and Imagination – Whampoa”, is a celebration of the past and present of Whampoa. Created with the participation of the local community, artist Lam Tung Pang has integrated the communities’ memories, historical images and students’ drawings in a mural that enriches and inspires the imagination.
The digital collage blends drawings by local Whampoa residents with the artist’s own distinctive artistic style. In an intricate process, the artist’s line drawings and residents’ charcoal drawings were scanned and placed together on a digital canvas and printed as one monumental image, depicting all facets of local life.
