Centuries of Hong Kong《百年香港》
Acrylics, charcoal and pencil on plywood | H425cm x L717cm | 2011
In this large-scale, multi-panel painting, pale colours are dispersed across four plywood boards to form a seascape interrupted by mountains and a cluster of tall buildings; figures and trees are dotted across the land, while boats drift across the sea. Commissioned by the Hong Kong Legislative Council, Centuries of Hong Kong presents Lam’s artistic interpretation of the city’s transformation from a serene fishing village to a cosmopolitan, skyscraper-crowded metropolis over 150 years.
