In The Sinking World, Lam expands upon the traditional Chinese ink traditions for which he is renowned to experiment with children’s stickers for the first time. From afar, the artwork represents classical landscapes. A closer look reveals modern buildings and skyscrapers. On the surface, a playful smattering of stickers in the shape of clouds, animals, and automobiles create a complex and layered theatrical effect, telling vivid and multiple stories to an observant viewer.
